UX Writing Volunteer – Oppia
Overview:
I was a UX writing volunteer for the Oppia Foundation, a non-profit that is working to make sure that every child gets access to the education they deserve. During my 6 months volunteering there, I worked on a few solo projects and also contributed to the in-progress UX writing guide for future volunteers.
Timeline:
Jan 2022 – June 2022
Tools Used:
Figma, Google Suites
Design Work:
My first project at Oppia was to rewrite the copy in some iframes of a few math lessons. The goal was to make sure that the meaning of the copy gets communicated well, since a lot of the audience would be second language English speakers. We also focused on making sure that the copy was positive and encouraging.
The second project, and one that lasted for about 4 months, was to rewrite the copy in the “Sponsors” page. We wanted to make sure the tone of the company was clear to the reader, and we also wanted the information on the page to entice further sponsors. This was done in tandem with the lead UX designer, and we worked through 5-10 iterations before settling on the best combination of text and design.
