Lowe’s Product
Design Internship

Overview:
I was on the Apps UX team during my internship. During these 10 weeks, my goals were to learn about best practices about iOS and Android UI, to refine my copywriting, and to contribute to both the UX and UI of the Lowe’s App.

Timeline:
June-August 2022

Tools:
Figma, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Figjam

Design Work:
My fellow intern and I worked on a usability heuristics test for Lowe’s and two other competitor apps – Home Depot and Target. This helped me familiarize myself with app design best experiences.

I used this knowledge in my main project, which was the enhancement of the curbside pickup experience. I focused on and created an experience that will address the concern of transparency while the customer waits for the associate. Here, started with a competitive analysis workshop, following which I created a user flow, multiple wireframes, and a consolidated prototype. Initial user research was conducted, after which I modified the prototype based on recommendations. This was presented to the team for a final review, after which it was handed off to a senior designer and researcher for more in-depth research and iterations.

In tandem with the main project was an opportunity to sharpen my copywriting skills. I worked on error messaging in the app, focusing on identifying use cases and user reactions. I then noted down what my findings were, which were then packaged up to be handed off. This project opened my eyes to the way a project works at Lowe’s, from inception to handing off to the relevant engineer and content strategist.

After completion of my project, I supported the team creating the design system of the app, both for iOS and Android. A lot of my work here was creating iconography for Android and the subsequent problem solving. This furthered my fluency in Figma as well as increasing my familiarity in app UI.
